Juvenile Student Taken Into Custody After Threat Rumor in Idaho Falls

Idaho Falls Pocatello, ID, October 16, 2026 —

A juvenile student was taken into custody in Idaho Falls after a rumor of a firearm threat prompted a brief “Hall Check” at Eagle Rock Middle School and Ethel Boyes Elementary, according to the information provided about the incident.

The Idaho Falls Police Department is investigating the alleged threat. Police confirmed that there is no evidence a gun was brought to school. The reported absence of evidence that a firearm was brought to either school does not establish what prompted the rumor or what was said; those details were not provided.

The available information describes the Hall Check as brief but does not explain what the procedure involved, how long it lasted or whether classes or school activities were affected. It also does not specify when the incident occurred, where the student was taken into custody, or whether the student faces any charges. The student’s identity and age were not provided.

No details were given about how the alleged threat was communicated, whether it named a particular school, or what steps investigators may take next. The police investigation remains ongoing, and no additional findings were included in the information available.

The account identifies both Eagle Rock Middle School and Ethel Boyes Elementary as schools where the brief Hall Check took place. It does not state whether the alleged threat was directed at one or both schools. At this stage, the confirmed details are limited to the student’s custody, the brief Hall Check at the two schools and the police confirmation that there is no evidence a gun was brought to school.
